telling the truth

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it. –C. S. Lewis

I believe we care about originality because we are quite bored with the world around us. So how do you tell the truth and remain engaging? This question is desperately important to me at work; being engaging is key to success in social media and marketing. I have a very small window to grab people’s attention and involve them in our story.

This tension occurs in my daily life as well. I often discover that I’m positioning myself in whichever way I will be most appealing to the people around me in order to get my emotional, physical, and even spiritual needs met. Don’t we all do this? Do we even notice?

It can be difficult to be both honest and engaging. I for one, am looking for ways to intertwine my story with truth that is utterly compelling.
